MIM Cartridge Cases to Hit the Market

Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC), Johnstown, Pennsylvania, has licensed its patented metal injection molded (MIM) ammunition technology marking a major step toward commercial production. First developed with the U.S. Army in 2014, CTC produced initial MIM cartridge case prototypes in 2016 and refined the design over a decade, earning two U.S. patents in 2023.

The stainless-steel, single-piece MIM cases offer higher pressure capability (tested up to 100,000 PSI), increased muzzle velocity, improved accuracy, greater durability across extreme temperatures, and corrosion resistance, while remaining compatible with existing manufacturing infrastructure. CTC will remain a preferred engineering partner, providing development and technical support. CTC President Edward J. Sheehan, Jr. emphasized the transition as evidence of the organization’s mission to move innovative defense solutions from concept to fielded capability. The partnership aims to deliver the cases to military, law enforcement, and civilian markets, showcasing effective public‑private collaboration in defense innovation.
